The start of a brand new year can give you a fresh and motivated outlook on getting fit. The best thing about the start of a new year is the idea that you can have fresh start. You can break the habits of the past and focus on taking care of yourself, your health and your body. Getting in shape can be very difficult and requires dedication, perseverance and determination so here are a few things you can keep in mind to keep up you motivated.
Set Goals
It is very important to set realistic goals when getting into shape. But make sure they are realistic. Making a goal to lose 10 pounds in 2 weeks sets yourself up for failure and disappointment. A good rule of thumb is to set goals in 3 month intervals. A goal like lose 10 lbs in 3 months and reduce my body percentage by 2% is a realistic goal. You need to make sure that your goals also reflect how you are going to feel. Make sure to include well being goals based on your mood, outlook on life and confidence. You will feel more motivated when you know that you will feel better in life.
Start Slow
The worst thing you can do when starting to work out is to push yourself to the limit. Most individuals overestimate how fit and how strong they really are. In fact, when fit seekers initially go to the gym, they push their body to the point of overexertion causing injury or extreme fatigue. That is why it is so hard to go back to the gym after your first week of hard workouts. It is important to understand that becoming fit takes time. It’s not going to happen right away. It’s a long process of continuous and regular exercise that gradually increases in intensity. When we push ourselves to our limits, we want to quit exercising because of the negative consequences of trying too hard, too fast. So start slow!
Be Consistent
If you don’t use it, you will lose it! Working out irregularly and inconsistently causes your overall fitness level to decrease fast. Muscles shrink, you lose your strength and you lose all the work that you had put in before. If you are putting in all that work, make sure to work out regularly.
Use Supplements to Boost Your Energy
Many individuals complain that they do not have the energy to work out. Lack of energy can be supplemented with natural and man-made supplements. Giving yourself that boost of energy can help kick start you into action.
