The Best Time to Travel to Mexico

Weather Seasons

Mexico generally has a rainy and dry season. The rainy seasons runs between May to October and is more typically evident in the Southern regions. During these months, the weather is hot and humid with average temperatures being in the upper 80s and low 90s. During the rainy season, showers generally start in the late afternoon and may last for a couple of hours. It can also be quite likely that you won’t experience much rain during a weeklong trip during the rainy season. One benefit of visiting in the rainy season is that the scenery is lush with even more tropical flowers.  The dry season runs between mid-October to April with average temperatures in the mid-70s. Something to keep in mind when travelling to the Yucatan Peninsula or Southern Pacific Coast is that hurricane season runs between June to October. That may be a time you wish to avoid.

Travel Seasons

There are two specific travel seasons in Mexico; the high and low seasons. The high season has the highest number of tourists and also correlates with the highest travel prices. The high season is generally between mid-December and mid-April. Cabo San Lucas experiences their high season between December and March due to whale watching. Cancun experiences their high season between December to April especially during Spring Break but, also experiences a high season during July and August during the summer vacation months.  The remaining months are considered the low season (generally May to November) where you can experience a 20 to 50% drop in travel prices. Also, there are fewer tourists during this time so crowds are at a minimum.

The Best Time to Go

The best time to go is definitely personal preference. If you like crowds, want to mingle and don’t mind spending a little extra on your vacation, go during the high season. If you would like a more quiet vacation at a good price and don’t mind a little bit of rain, go during the low season. A happy medium would most likely be during the shoulder months of November or May. November can be great as the rainy season just ended so the scenery is lush and temperatures are still a bit cooler. May is also a good time if you are planning to go on a vacation closer to summer and want a little more heat than during the winter months.
